The Portrait Experience

I’m very excited that you would like to know more about a portrait session with me so here goes…

To start with don’t feel nervous. I imagine there may be a little bit of anxiety around booking a session. Will I look ok? How will I know what to do? Will my kids behave? What will I wear? All very good questions. Funny thing is EVERYONE feels this way!

Don’t worry I’ve got you covered!

These few steps should prepare you for what to expect from a session with me.

Booking In

Booking in is super easy, you’ll email me, I’ll either email or phone you back. I’ll answer any questions you may have, we’ll organise a date and then I’ll send a tiny amount of paper work to fill in. Easy peasy!

Now you’ll be thinking ‘what are we going to wear’! Don’t stress because then you’ll receive a what to wear guide!! So much easier when you have some guidance right! This has lots of helpful tips and ideas of what looks great and what doesn’t look so great. You’ll love it!

Ok so now you’re booked in, you have clothes sorted, all that’s left to do is take the photos. Yes! The fun part.

The Session

In case you hadn’t noticed simplicity is my thing. I love white, cream and neutral tones with a touch of prettiness for the girls. Keeping your images simple and neutral makes them about you and how you interact with your family. You definitely don’t need to know how to work the camera with me. All you need to do is know how to play and interact with your little people. I will direct you the entire time and if I’m not saying anything its because you are rocking it all on your own.

THE KIDS! Yes the kids…..I know you might be worried that they won’t behave or that they will be shy but seriously don’t. I never put a time limit on a session. If your child needs more time to warm up then I give them more time. If your child wants to jump around and do cartwheels then they totally can. The best images come from when kids (and adults) can just relax and be themselves. So there will be no pressure from me for your child to say cheese or sit still. Over the last 10 years I have learnt lots of tips and games to play with kids to get them engaging and doing as they’re asked without them even knowing!

Your baby like your children will have their own personality and agenda. Some come in awake and stay awake while others come in asleep and stay asleep or a mixture of both. During your session there will be plenty of time for feeding, cuddling and soothing with no time pressure on anything. My style of photography doesn’t require babies to be in a deep sleep to pose them in certain ways. I photograph them just as they are, all the yawns, stretches, funny facials, smiles, tuffs of hair, peeling skin and every interaction with you ♥

PHOTOS ARE TAKEN, WHAT HAPPENS NOW?

This is the part that most people have no idea on. ‘We have these photos but have no idea what to do with them’. During your session we will have an opportunity to discuss what printed artwork offer. I have a variety of options to suit all budgets from prints to albums and everything in between. You don’t need to make any decisions on that until after you have seen your images, but its nice to get an idea beforehand.

Within 48 hrs of your session I will send you a private online gallery where you can choose your favourites. Your favourites will then be fully retouched and any printed artwork will be ordered. You should have everything back and ready to admire on those walls around 3-4 weeks after your session (depending on which artwork your choose).
